Start to Finish – Beginning Quilting by Machine

Learn to quilt in this class.  It is designed for the beginner.  The lesson topics include:

The basics – Fabric, Thread, Needles, and Rotary Cutting
Nine Patch Block Assembly
Churn Dash Block Assembly
Squaring Up and Assembling the Quilt Top
Borders -- Pieced and Un-piece
Marking and Basting
Machine Quilting & Binding

Day:      Monday
Time:    1 to 3:30 OR 6 to 8:30 pm
Dates:   Sept. 13, 20, & 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18, & 25; Nov. 1 (8 weeks total)

Bull’s Eye

Hate to piece curved seams? Learn to make a raw-edged bull’s eye block.  This will be the most relaxing and fun quilt you have ever made.

 Award Winning Finishing Touches

We will learn 2 methods of putting on piped binding.  The first type of binding is put on the quilt without any hand work and true mitered corners.  The other style uses a cool tool to make that piping pop with perfection. We will practice both straight of grain and bias cut binding methods

Embellishing with Beads and Crystals

Today, many quilts, especially art quilts, are being embellished with lots of different items.  And of course, all crazy quilts just call out for beads to be added.  This workshop will introduce you to adding beads and crystals to your quilts or other fabric items.  Come play with us and let your creativity soar!

  Beginning Machine Quilting and Binding

So many quilt tops – so little time!  This class is designed for those who want to understand the basic tools and rules of both straight-line and free-motion quilting.  The class will also cover binding your quilt.  We’ll cover a variety of topics including batting, layering the quilt sandwich, presser feet, threads, needles, and other necessary notions to make machine quilting a breeze.   This is a hands-on class and you will leave with a “can do” feeling for finishing your projects.   YOU MUST KNOW YOUR MACHINE.

Color From the Heart

If you are one of those who have difficulty deciding what fabrics will look good together in a quilt, this class will help you learn how to have confidence in picking your fabrics for your future quilts.  We will be planning and making five wall hanging size quilts that will help you learn how to put different fabrics together for pleasing results.  THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS.

Let’s Make a Quilt

Come spend the day making a lap quilt (50” x 60”).  We will provide the sewing machine and basic tools.  All you need to bring is your interest in learning quilting basics

1 session:  Saturday, October 1, 2010; 10 am to 4 pm

Fee:  $26;  This class is offered through Amarillo College.  You may register on AC’s website under Continuing Education, or in person at AC or Sisters’ Scraps.
Kit required:  You must purchase a pre-cut fabric kit for this class.  The cost of the kit is $57.95, but students in the class will receive a 15% discount off the kit price.  Space is limit, so sign up today!

Beginning Silk Ribbon Embroidery

This class is designed to introduce you to silk ribbon embroidery.  You will learn to create beautiful silk flowers to enhance crazy quilt patches, and other decorative applications.  You do not need to be an artist.  Basic embroidery stitches are used.  If you love hand embroidery, you will love this class!

Beginning Machine Appliqué

Calling all beginners and those who need a refresher course in machine appliqué.  Learn:

English Paper Piecing

English paper piecing is known to be the oldest method of hand piecing quilts (originated in England).  You may know the pattern as Grandmother’s flower garden.  This is a very good mobile project to take to the doctor’s office, traveling, or just enjoying at home. 

1 session; Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1 to 4 pm OR 5 to 9 pm

X Blocks Quilt

Come join us and make this beautiful quilt that looks so difficult but is very easy with the X Block tool.  You can actually be the designer.  Once the blocks are cut with the X Block tool, they can be arranged in many different ways to create the design that you like.  You get to use the cutaways to make the border or you can make a plain border.  You can choose to make one of the patterns in the book or one of the individual X Block patterns.

I Spy Napping Quilt

One of a child’s favorite games is to match fun pictures.  Making this quilt will provide hours of fun for both you and your child/grandchild.  What a great Christmas present this quilt will make!

Lucky Stars

Make this cheerful “floating star” fat quarter quilt using simple quilting techniques.

Brazilian Embroidery

During this class, you will complete a beautiful embroidery piece that you can frame or make into a small pillow.  Kathy will share her knowledge of Brazilian Embroidery stitches which she has mastered through participation in various workshops taught by nationally known teachers.  This class is for those who already know how to do basic embroidery stitches, but are new to the three dimensional Brazilian embroidery using rayon threads.

About the teacher:  Kathy has been working with Brazilian Embroidery for 7 years, having taken classes from most of the well-known artist in this medium.  She is a member of the Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery International Guild.
